Oozing with the colonial ambience of yesteryear, yet boasting modern facilities on par with the best hotels, this extravagant homestay is situated in a 400-acre coffee, cardamom and vanilla plantation amidst the forests of Wayanad, Kerala.

The traditional house has rosewood floors and old-world charm lingering amongst its exquisite furnishings. Guest rooms are more contemporary in their style, adorned with all mod cons, TVs and tea/coffee making facilities. The luxury tree house – kitted out with hot-water, a fridge, king-size bed and a veranda – has been carved out of beautiful coffee wood and is nestled under the beauty of a tall Gul Mohr tree.

Local cuisine and continental options are served buffet-style, yet still in a distinctly family environment, with much emphasis on the communal ‘dinner party’ setting in a magnificent location. Honeymooners and romantic couples can choose to squirrel away in a secluded setting overlooking the pool for a private dinner. One of the dining highlights is breakfast with a jaw-dropping view at Lookout Rock.

What Tranquil does best is nature and relaxation: swing in the hanging chairs on the veranda, take a sunset pool dip in the pool under the coconut palms, or wander around the beautifully maintained grounds and lush plantations. Tranquil is a homestay experience like none other; a calm and quiet retreat within an environment of exquisite ecological beauty.

Out and About

Choose one of ten marked walks around the plantation, including a steep climb to the Cliffhanger for rewarding views. Trek to the Edakkal Cave, where you will find engravings dating back to the New Stone Age. Spot elephants, bison, monkeys and other wildlife (even tigers if you’re lucky) in the Muthanga National Park. Drive to Calicut (just 2 hours), the city of spices steeped in maritime history and a distinctive local character. Stay in the arms of your tranquil retreat and experience an ayurvedic massage
